India has deployed thousands of paramilitary soldiers into in the region of Kashmir which is already among the most militarized areas in the world following a series of targeted murders over the last few weeks, authorities said on Wednesday.
New Delhi has for decades placed at minimum 500,000 soldiers in the valley of occupation.
"Around 2500 soldiers have arrived and were deployed across the"occupied" Kashmir valley" Abhiram Pankaj, an official of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stated. The rest were expected to arrive the spokesman added.
About 5,000 additional paramilitaries in all were deployed this week in the words of a police official.
A few of the soldiers are stored in civil community halls which have been bolstered by new bunkers made of sandbags, which are similar to the early 1990s, when the struggle against Indian government was at its highest.
12 people were shot down in what appears to be targeted murders that included police officers and migrant workers of northern Indian states as well as local people belonging to the Sikh and Hindu communities.
A few of the victims were charged to The Resistance Front, a local group, of being under the hands or a part of Indian forces.
Paramilitary and police forces equipped with bulletproof gear and automatic rifles have increased search warrants for residents including children, in the streets.
The newly deployed Indian troops are visible in the new checkpoints put up in the last few weeks all over Srinagar.
